What Is PIB 950?

PIB 950 is a conventional polyisobutylene with an average molecular weight of 960. It is a colorless, chemically inert liquid made by polymerizing isobutylene, and it belongs to our full line of conventional and high reactive polyisobutylene grades. PIB 950 is non-drying and highly resistant to oxidation and photodegradation. It is non-toxic and leaves no residue when volatilized or thermally decomposed.

The two terms are often used interchangeably, but they are not identical. Polyisobutylene is made from isobutylene monomer, while polybutene is made from a mixed C4 stream that contains both isobutylene and n-butene. PIB 950 is chemically stable under normal storage conditions. Store it in a cool, dry area away from strong oxidizers and direct heat, and keep containers sealed to prevent moisture and contamination.
